A Hair Cut, A Shower, and A Shave....

....yeah, I was supposed to do that tonight, but just flat out didn't. Did a little bit of cleaning. Much needed, but didn't get what I wanted to get done...well, done. Having a clean house seems to be a battle that we cannot win. We try and fight the good fight though....

As I have said many, many times before, I think that work is just consuming me. During the last two weeks, I have worked more hours than I ever have during any time in my life. I am tired because of it. I really hate having to recover the entire weekend, and by recover, I mean sleep. I slept a lot this weekend. I guess that is what the weekends are for? For now, all that I can do is keep on working. I suppose that it is nice to have sympathy from the entire lab though. Seriously, everyone is being very patient with us, some even helping out as much as they can.

Moving along, I think that I have heard more new music than I ever have in the last 8 or 9 years. New music meaning the stuff they play on 104, 97.9 and any other pop music station out there. That is part of Richard no longer being at work. The new folks have now brought their music to work. This might be the hardest part of work....not really, but maybe....

In any event, I am still looking forward for this year to wind down. The holiday's and the few extra days off are going to be much needed, you have no freaking idea. I will be honestly, so glad to get this year over with. It has been the weirdest one to date for me. Hell, next year could be worse! I really don't know. It might not be, but I just want 2010 way in the rear view, you know?!

Sigh...

Alright, I have a lot on my mind and a lot going on. I think I need much more updates. It's a bit like therapy for me in a sense. I certainly will give it more effort.

Well, we had nice halloween. I think that we took Raymond trick or treating for the first time. He had a blast. He was Robin this year. Batman last year, Robin this year...makes sense. He certainly liked to go trick or treating, even if was only like four or five houses. It should only get better as he gets older. The girls'...well, they didn't take their afternoon nap, so they were a bit on the grumpy side. I will say that they looked cute as the bumble bee (Lylah) and the lady bug (Zoe). Good memories!

I think that is all that I have for now....besides that work is consuming me, and I don't want it to. Just keep on grinding it out. I am hoping for a great week (yeah, right!?). Texans on Monday Night Football, St. Arnold's Devine Reserve No. 10 out on Tuesday, and the all mighty Gwar on Friday Night!! Can't wait!

Here's to hoping for a decent week.....

Sorry, I have to post this....

I love it!

Texans stomp The Colts!

Now this was the event that I was waiting for. Yes, the allergies were still present, but not as bad. I am glad that we got to go to this game. When will we ever have the chance to ever go again? Who knows?! I must add, that Club level is probably the way to go. They might have been the best seats that I have ever had a game. They weren't too high, not too low, great view!

This was probably the loudest the crowd got, maybe...even though The Colts got a big game, it was still loud to start it off...

U of H vs. UTEP

It was a hot/late night. It was fun, only it would have been better had the allergies not started their attack on me that very day....

Still waiting...

Still waiting for any kind of update on the house. Sucks to not sleep in your own bed, use your own computer, or just even to sit on your own coach. I am sure some of you have experienced this.

No offense, I mean, I guess that we are lucky to be able to stay at my Mom's, but I would much rather just be at home.

It's been weird lately...

Ya'll, it's just been a bit weird for me these last few days...I think that work is definitely speeding up the process of my death (or something), and the house is in disary (yet again).

I don't want to talk about work, so......

We are having some major electrical issues at the ol' homestead. We can't quite get to the bottom of it. It can get a little scary when around 2 in the morning (I can't honestly remember what time it was), your outlet in the front room, that has the tv and everything plugged in suddenly blows out and you hear popping and crackling afterward. Is the house going to burn?! Did the tv make it?! What the hell is going on? To top all of that off, I wasn't even drunk. God damn...a miserable night. And I was even in the middle of watching CB4...what else can go wrong!?? Luckily the tv, ps3, and cable box were all plugged into a surge protector. Very lucky, let me tell you.

The next day the same thing happened in the computer room. That surge protector blew out and is dead. Again, yet another scare to hear a noise and them smoke forming in the computer room. Yeah, that surge protector had some melted insides, and I think the same goes for the AT&T modem, again, I am lucky that the Mac was unplugged. You kind of think to yourself, once more, is the house going to burn to the ground, and gee, I hope the computer is still working. I would have cried had that thing blew out. A quick word of advice, if you have some form of electronic that requires plug in, but that sucker on a surge protector.

An electrician that we have looking into it suggests that we have our local energy company come out and check the lines. We think that the problem has something to do with the lines that feed our house power, that will be the best possible senerio for us, and the cheapest. We have to wait for them to come out, a 2 to 3 day wait, but with rain in the forecast for the next 5 days, I fear that wait will grow longer. Tonight, we sleep at my Momma's place, and it might not be the last night either. Not too much we can do at this point.

It's weird to be without tv or a computer for a day or two. I feel a little lost. Technology has really gotten us by the balls, doesn't it?!?

For now, we just wait to see just what the final outcome is going to be. While I wait, alcohol helps to ease that pain a little...well, that and cussing a lot!

Well, that is all that I have for now, I think I will go catch the end of Return of the Jedi with Raymond and finish off this beer....more updates later....

Still on the Star Wars tip...

Pretty funny if you have a few minutes to spare...there is a little cussing, so don't attempt at work...if you even have access to youtube at work, that is....

Happy Birthday Empire Strikes Back!

A couple of days late, but I still wanted to mention this iconic movie here. It is probably, more than likely, the best of the six Star Wars movies. I got to watch it on Spike this past weekend for the first time in a good while. I personally think that it still holds up today. So many great lines, pretty decent story, and probably one of the most important and shocking moments in cinematic history. It looks pretty good in HD too. Although, they need to hurry up with the bluray version, which will probably kick the HD's ass.

After all of these years, I must admit that Star Wars is still dear to me. I mean, it WAS most of my childhood. It's hard to deny. Playing with all of my figures, either pretending to be on Hoth with Laura on my Mom's bed, you know, with the white sheets playing the part of the snow, or playing as if I was on degobah on the porch with the bushes playing that part of the planet, or actually pretending I was Luke, and cousin John was Han, it played a huge role in my life. Although, we didn't have anyone to play Chewbacca, I guess we didn't have any hairy kids back in the hood. In any event, it was so fun.

It really neat to see Raymond taking it in soooo well. I mean, he really loves to watch the movies whenever they are on. Am I surprised? A little, yes. Why? I have no idea, I guess because Star Wars has been around for so long, I guess you kind of forget that these movies do appeal to kids, and this holds true. Am I a little bit happy about this? Of course. It reminds me how happy I was being a kid and breathing Star Wars, you know?!?! I guess it is running in his blood. It has to be, I mean, I don't force him to watch it or anything like that, it is like it was natuarally appealing to him. Seriously!

To be completely honest, even though the Prequels were a bit terrible, I guess the kid in me gives it a free pass. Still, it is disappointing to know, or think about what could have been, what they should have been. They should have been so much better, but I doubt they could have lived up to expectations. Lucas should have tried though, right!?! Oh well, there is nothing that we can do about it now. I say that we just have to be happy with the Star Wars that we were dealt, and I do. Trust me, if and when all six movies come out on Bluray, I will be there.

I am still a bit surprised to learn different things about the Holy Trilogy after all of these years. I guess that I am not a knowledgeable about Star Wars as most people are on the internet. It never surprises me how "nerdy" one can get about Star Wars. I was pretty shocked and disappointed to read some things about Lucas. Mostly disappointed. It sounds like he, to put it as someone did on the internet, chickened out on some things in Return of the Jedi. Reading this stuff really sucked to see that this movie was probably supposed to turn out a lot different. I share a few with you now...

"The concept of seeing the Empire's home world, renamed "Had Abbadon", came up again in Return of the Jedi, and the concept of the entire planet being a city came up for the first time. However, it was realized that such a city on screen would be impossible given the technical limitations at the time, and so the idea was abandoned."

"also in esb they seeded leia having a bigger role in jedi, with yodas portentous "no, there is another"

i always get the details wrong but my understanding it that the original arc was to have luke fall to the dark side, and leia rescues him from vader, rather than luke rescuing vader from palpatine.

instead she got to fucking play with ewoks and make googly eyes at han. totally undid her previous badassness."

"Originally "there is another skywalker" referred to Luke's sister, who wasn't Leia.

I believe Luke was going to search for her after ROTJ..."

This shit right here should blow your mind!!!

"The issue of whether Harrison Ford would return for the final film arose during pre-production. Unlike the other stars of the first two films, Ford had not signed on for two more sequels. Ford's idea was to have Han Solo be killed through self-sacrifice. Kasdan concurred, saying it should happen near the beginning of the film to instill doubt as to whether the others would survive, but Lucas was vehemently against it and rejected the concept.[2] Yoda was originally not meant to appear in the film but Marquand strongly felt that returning to Dagobah was essential to resolve the dilemma raised by the previous film.[9] The inclusion led Lucas to insert a scene in which Yoda confirms that Darth Vader is Luke's father because, after a discussion with a children's psychologist, he did not want younger moviegoers to dismiss Vader's claim as a lie.[7] Many ideas from the original script were left out or changed. For instance, the Ewoks were going to be Wookiees,[10] the Millennium Falcon would be used in the arrival at the Forest moon of Endor instead of the Death Star attack, and Obi-Wan Kenobi would return to life from his existence in the Force.[11]"

One last tidbit, this one about Empire...

It is a matter of public record that Kurtz's final collaboration with Lucas, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, was an expensive and difficult production. Records at Elstree indicate that the movie took 175 shooting days having been budgeted at 100, which forced Lucas to borrow $10 million to complete the film. Kurtz had to help direct along with David Tomblin, Irvin Kershner, Harley Cokeliss and John Barry (who died during production of meningitis) to bring the film in on even this revised schedule and budget. Lucas visited the set in London only a couple of times. There are photos published of Lucas on the "bog" set consulting the production, but Kershner directed all the scenes on that set.

During filming of The Empire Strikes Back George Lucas suffered an apparent panic attack, accusing the filmmakers of ruining his movie. He followed this by taking the existing footage into an editing bay and cut together a fast-paced action version of early scenes, excising plot-oriented content, then showed it to Kurtz and other members of cast and crew, who reacted with laughter. Lucas later admitted this was a mistake.

Kurtz's wife, Meredith, planned the film's 'wrap party' in late August 1979 and the Kurtzes hosted the affair. The actual completion of photography was a month later. Kurtz did not leave the movie before its completion and was actively involved from post production through its release in theatres in the U.S. and the UK. He was replaced by Howard Kazanjian for Return of the Jedi.

Even after the financial success of The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas regarded The Empire Strikes Back as a failure. It was after this pronouncement that Kurtz and Lucas parted company.

It is notable that the more mystical aspects of the Jedi were absent from Star Wars films following Kurtz's departure, while similar mystical elements appeared in Kurtz's later muppet fantasy film The Dark Crystal. Lucas' replacement of mystical or spiritual explanations with more scientific-seeming explantations such as midichlorians in the Star Wars prequels has faced heavy criticism from Star Wars fans."

Goodnight, and May The Force Be With You!

And just when I was thinking I couldn't drink beer anymore...

....you totally redeem yourself!! (I wonder if anyone knows what that redeem yourself quote is from)...

In any event, this update is overdue. I think that I said that I was going to update it a couple of weeks ago, but all hell broke loose soon after. I think that this might be the only time that I vent about, or mention work in a blog. This will be the only time, I promise....

Let me first start off by saying that it was nice to leave work, on a Wednesday, before 8:00. Really, it feels like I got away with something without getting caught. "I'm as happy as a little girl." It's been a great night for me, personally. At least, so far!

It's been pretty hectic, pretty terrible at work for going on three weeks now. Or has it been four? It's kind of hard to recall. Everything just blends together, or is really blurry. There was pretty much a two week stretch where I didn't see the baby girls awake (on weekdays), which really, really sucked. The last weekend, it took me about a day and a half to feel at least a little bit rest, only to have to start the work week all over again. I can pretty much keep going on and on....

It kind of all came to a head for me this morning when Raymond cried at the site of my Mom getting here and him telling me that he didn't want to go to her house, and that "I want to stay home with you Dada!" Yeah, made me feel like shit, not to mention that I could barely keep my eyes open, just trying to stay awake. That will mess with you, let me tell you....after all that, the day turned out to be just a little bit better for me at work, which is to say that it was a lot better. I highly doubt that tomorrow will be any better, being as Thursday's are our busiest day of the week, but just having a somewhat manageable day, helped me out personally.

I would go even further as to say that I just haven't been too happy. I mean, I wasn't depressed, but I just wasn't happy. Weird how a job can do that to you, but it was starting to really get to me. I don't know if it is going to get any better. In fact, I know it isn't, it will just get worse (Summer is the busiest time for most environmental labs). I just think that I am getting used to it. Pretty sad, huh?

Any way the title of this post is in reference to me not really being able to drink beer. You guys know that I love to drink beer. It's a way for me to unwind, to just feel good, you know!! But these past weeks, beer just hasn't had that sweet, wonderful taste. Hell, last Saturday night I couldn't even drink one of my favorite beers (Satan). I forced myself. After a while I ended up spilling about half of it down the drain. I knew something was definitely wrong with me. And Mike!!! What is the deal with this Real Ale ESB!?? Gross and Yuck!!! It is too bitter for me. You owe me a sixer man...gross.....

Well, tonight....I can actually enjoy the sweet nectar that is beer....whew! I am glad to be over that!!!! PRAISE!!!

that's all for now...another update before the weekend is over, I promise!

Beat it T-Mac...

I think the T-Mac drama may finally be over....can't wait to see the new team tomorrow night...It seems that the trade is really good for the Rockets. Of course with this type of trade, we have to wait a few years to see if it truly worked out.

New Rated R trailer for Kick Ass...check it out....vulgar, violent!

I was really looking forward in getting this weekend started. Well, it's 10:00 p.m. now and Ruby has been asleep for about an hour already. Hopefully we get to make the most out of tomorrow....

Well, I guess that is all I have for tonight....

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Wow!

The girls are five months old today and Raymond is well on his way to becoming four (well the latter in about four more months, but still)!! Pretty scary to me! If I think about it, I still can't believe it. Really. As with everything, this has had many up's and down's. The girls are really going to make things interesting for us I think. I am really going to have to reflect on my Jedi training and remember to use patience, for anger most certainly leads to the darkside. Oh, I wish Master Yoda was still around to remind me of such things.

I don't know why I am trying an update tonight. I am feeling pretty worn down today. Two straight days of staying up past 12:00 and then waking up and staying up past 5:00 is starting to ware on me good. Still, I try my best to do things around the house, although tonight I haven't done a whole lot. I hope we can get Raymond in bed a bit earlier tonight, I may really need my energy tomorrow and the rest of the week at work.

Here's is where I start to get random...brace yourself..

- Baseball season is coming fast. The trucks are on their way to Florida, or are probably there already. Curious to see just what the Astro's have, which is probably not much, but me being a homer and everything I will follow. Probably from a distance though.

- You know, I can't find any footage of Ken Caminiti at all?!?! Nothing on youtube, I was a little surprised at that. He was one of my favorite Astro's despite the steroid and drug use. He was a troubled soul.

- Val Kilmer coming out in the new SNL movie "MacGruber" Movie?!?! Really?!!? Man, who did he piss off to fall like he did?!?

- I have been obsessed of sorts to PJ Harvey lately. I like her music.

- Raymond loves anything Batman! Ok, that is nothing new. I am going to attempt to take him to a comic book convention in March. I am excited, but mainly for me. I could end up blowing some cash on that day....

- How come I can't lose any weight. Could it be that I am not really trying?! Maybe....

- Come to think of it, I can't find much footage of Vernon Maxwell either. I really liked the way he played basketball. He was one of my favorite Rockets, despite his troubles off court, which were plenty. I think he is locked up right now.

Alright, that is all for now. Catch up later.

The Grammys....

Here you go....well said Eddie, well said...

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Oh man....

Been a rough night so far. The girls keep crying and we really can't figure out why exactly. I get home about 8:00 and Ruby is trying to cook dinner and get the girls bath ready while they sit in their swings quiet, but looking a bit off. I go in to tell them hello and they both start crying. I should have left them alone. They have been crying off and on ever since. They have a little bit of a fever from the three shots each in which they received yesterday. That, and the fact that they are either close to, or already teething. Man, we weren't looking forward to that. It's hard to tell if they are yet or not, but they are definitely crying a lot more, and with more volume than they ever have. At times tonight the crying is so bad. Nothing seems to soothe them.

I try to take over what little cooking is left (and by that, I mean nothing really), Ruby did most of it, while she bathes them. At that time, I start prepping their bottles. They are still crying. When the bottles are warm enough, I take it to them, but they still seem to cry. Okay, they are either starving, tired, or just plain not feeling well. It's been a whirlwind of a night, one that makes it very difficult. I hope that they aren't like this throughout the night. Ruby suggest a little Tylenol, just in case there still are effects of the shots and/or the teething.

All the while, Raymond has been in the tub playing and having fun. When he is like this, he really helps us out. Thank goodness for him being good tonight. He is a bit tired today from a fun day at "Little Grandma's", that's another plus. Still it is really difficult for us to keep Raymond's decibel level down. He is loud, but not really on purpose, this part doesn't really help, but what can one do? Soon he will tire out and crash, at least, I hope so...

I just sat back down from trying to help quiet the crying babies. Oh man, could be in for a long night and little sleep. I wish I knew how to keep them from crying and being uncomfortable, but I don't know how. Oh man, please hurry up and grow so that you can tell me what's wrong so I can try to fix it! Well, maybe not just yet...

"conan seems upset about something"

if you have about 10 minutes to kill...

Spider-Man 4, no more?!?!

I am sure Laura has seen something on this lately...kind of big hollywood news...

Spider-Man 4 seemed to be going through a lot of problems of sorts ever since they gave it the green light. Everyone was back on board for it, a scrip was approved, and a date even announced. Then a few days ago, we hear that it was pushed back, delayed, and finally postponed indefinitely....I think everyone was speculating that Sam Raimi (director) and Sony were fighting for creative control or whatever...which is what everyone also speculated happened in Spider-Man 3. Raimi didn't want Venom, but Sony forced it on him, making all of us suffer...most of all Spider-Man....

Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

The new chapter in the "Spider-Man" franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.

"A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three 'Spider-Man' films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We're very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning," said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

"Working on the 'Spider-Man' movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job," said Sam Raimi.

"We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade. This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else's hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable," said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio's chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. "Now everything begins anew, and that's got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can't wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012."

"'Spider-Man' will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films and as we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."

The studio will have more news about Spider-Man in 2012 in the coming weeks as it prepares for production of the film.

Well...this might be the best thing to do actually, but we will see just how it gets rebooted....most people seem to get sick to their stomach's thinking about going through another origin story again. Should they just start back up where they left off, just with new actors, directors!!? I don't know. There are certainly several different angles that they could go about it. I hope that they don't go like MTV and get really crazy with the high school angle, but anything could be good if they are done in a correct way.

I was ok with the Raimi franchise of Spider-Man for the most part. (or was I?!) They had two really good movies, and the third one is always going to be questioned and/or ridiculed. I think that was Raimi's way to get back at Sony! I personally think that the second one was the strongest in the series, and I also think that they really missed out on something potentially bigger with the whole Harry and Peter angle. I was looking forward to that, but it never really happened they way I thought.

I think the success of The Dark Knight has caused some studios to rethink some of these comic movies. I think the trend now is to make them gritty, a little bit more realistic than they ever had been, and most of all, much more darker. I guess they could be pro's and con's for this, but hollywood is a copy cat business...well, I guess most things that are out to make a lot money are, right!?!

In any event, this stuff is never ever in our hands, so all you can do is hope for the best and see what the outcome brings. Spider-Man is going to get made no matter what. The character is much to popular and has made too much money for them to just drop it.

Anyhow, that is my two cents on the subject, any thoughts or concerns that you guys might have?!?!
